  • Civic Education Project - International not-for-profit organization affiliated with Yale University in New Haven, CT and the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary. Through its Visiting Lecture and Eastern Scholar Programs, CEP supports higher education reform in universities in Central/Eastern Europe and Eurasia by placing advanced graduate students/faculty in social science departments for a year of teaching and program development.

Fellowships and Grants

  • ACLS (The American Council of Learned Societies) offers grants to Individuals for Training in East European Languages (at Programs in Summer 2003).

  • Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships. FLAS funds are from the U.S. Department of Education and are intended to support second language acquisition among US professionals. FLAS funds are non-service awards providing fellows with a stipend of $11,000 (AY) or $2400 (for summer language study) and full payment of tuition and fees.
  • Institute of International Education Professional Development Fellowships - The Institute of International Education (IIE) announces a fellowship program for young American researchers in professional, policy and public administration-related fields who want to develop a specialized knowledge of the NIS. Candidates may apply for grants to Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Slovak Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine or Uzbekistan.
  • NSEP Student Fellowship Programs - The National Security Education Program (NSEP) Graduate International Fellowships enable U.S. graduate students to pursue specialization in area and language study or to add an important international dimension to their education. NSEP Fellowships support students pursuing the study of languages, cultures, and world regions which are critical to U.S. national security, but which are less frequently studied by U.S. graduate students, i.e., areas of the world other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It is hoped that recipients of NSEP Fellowships will comprise an ever-growing cadre of experts whose enriched educational and professional experiences will enable them to provide leadership and direction in our national commitment to economic growth, international peace and security, and promotion of democracy abroad.   • The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship - The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship was established in 1987 to provide college graduates with the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security. Twice yearly, the Fellowship's Board of Directors selects a small group of outstanding individuals to spend six months in Washington. Supported by a monthly stipend, the Fellows serve as full-time project assistants at the participating organization of their choice. In the Program's first thirteen years, seventy one fellowships have been awarded.

  • USIA Fulbright Program - The U.S. Student Program is designed to give recent B.S./B.A. graduates, master's and doctoral candidates, and young professionals and artists opportunities for personal development and international experience. The Program promotes cross-cultural interaction and mutual understanding on a person-to-person basis in an atmosphere of openness, academic integrity, and intellectual freedom.
  • White House Fellowships - Intended for young professional who have demonstrated academic and professional excellence. Places recipients in a cabinet-level agency, the Executive Office of the President, the Vice President's office, or in smaller agencies where they work as full-time paid assistants.
